Walk Like A… Ballerina

I’ve always wanted to capture shots of my daughter walking on her toes.

She doesn’t do it the typical way. She walks on the tops of her toes.

Like a ballerina!

Here she is on her way up; toes already curled under.

Ballerina Toes

Here she is on her toes.

Ballerina Toes

The foot on the left isn’t as high because she was getting tired. I’d had her do it over and over, and from different angles, so I could be sure to get the right shot. :D

Have you ever tried walking on the tops of your toes?

If not, try it! It’s not easy.

Hello. I saw this and really want you to know that its not good for her toes!
I hope you are trying to get her out of the habit.. :S I’d hate for her to have issues in her future for it.

    Jennifer,
Thank you for your concern! However, this isn’t something that she does every day, or even every week. Just on occasion; it’s certainly not a habit. In fact, thinking about it, when I took these pictures was the last time I saw her on her toes like this, and at all. :D

It’s ok for now since I think she is young but over a period of a few years it will cause problems and joint pain and even toe disfigurement (I’m trying not to make it sound scary but I can’t think of a better word, sorry). The good news is there is plenty of time to get her out of the habit.

Please, people - stop leaving comments about how bad this is for her toes! She rarely ever does it, and in fact, hasn’t done it since I made these pictures ALMOST A YEAR AGO! I’ve deleted some pretty nasty comments from this post and left others that weren’t mean, but really… she’s not going to have joint problems. She DOESN’T do this very often. I had to *ask* her to do it for the photos, and she hasn’t thought to do it again since.

    Thank you for respecting this!

    Hi,

All of you who think this is bad for her toes has never tried it.
She is obviously naturally gifted with flexibility.
It doesn’t hurt ballerinas unless they wear too tight shoes (most ballerinas have lovely feet!)

Children will not intentionally hurt themselves.
I would love such flexible well arched feet.
    I’m flat-footed.
