Starting Business - So Much To Do

I have so much else to do, but I really wanted to get a post up here so that I could make this site “mine” - at least a little bit.

Things I’ve got to do to make it more mine?

  • get my own photos up in the header
  • play with the theme so that everything’s not the boring, default grey

Before I play around with the colors, though, I want to have my logo done. That way they can compliment each other.

I think.

I mean, the photos at the top will be of all different colors. So does it really matter if I wait until I get a logo done? I think not.
Well, we’ll see which comes first: logo or time to work on the theme, figuring out how to change the colors of the links, etc. I have to figure it out each time I work on a theme, which has been several times now (at least four, but possibly more).

Thank goodness for the internet, and for the people who offer their help for free by posting this information on their blogs or in forums!

About business… well, I’m really excited to be starting a photography business. As I’ve been telling many people lately, I’ve wanted to be a photographer since I was 9 years old.

The dream has never left; it’s only just now fitting into my life.

Actually, I believe it would have fit earlier. However, I had friends and acquaintances who started photography businesses, or saw others’ work and thought I wouldn’t get business.

But… those photographers have moved away or are now focused on an area other than mine, and so I feel it’s finally time for me to begin!

My focus, to begin this business, is on kids. A few of the things that describe what I want to do are:

  • on location
  • natural light
  • close up
  • playful
  • candid

Of course, these won’t all apply all of the time. However, these are the overlying ideals of my business.

I plan to specialize in nursing, or breastfeeding, photography. The breastfeeding relationship has been extremely important to me and I want to help other moms capture these special moments, as they don’t last very long.

Besides, I think the world needs more of these kinds of images.

Until I get some time to get photos up in my header, here’s a little sampling of some recent work. These are from a nursing photo session I did almost two weeks ago. I know that there are quite a few changes I need to make, but the session turned out pretty good.

I don’t know why the slideshow won’t align with the rest of the post, lol.Feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts on the photos; if you’re going to be rude you can keep it to yourself. :P

Use the form on the contact page to schedule your session or to get more information.

I love the pictures!! The first one is just too perfect. I also really like the new ones of Arden. I don’t know how you managed those!

Keep up the wonderful work, Barb!

    Dana,
Thank you so much! Getting the sleeping photo of Arden was really, really tricky, but I’m glad it turned out.

I love the last one, how cute! The baby is licking her lips! That is just way to funny, simply gorgeous! Well done Barb :)

Thanks so much, Kelly. I thought that one was great, too: aren’t they all licking their lips, at least in their minds. ;)

    Barb,
congratulations and much success with your new business:-) Lysa and I are looking for photos for our new AP book, so if you have more that you would be willing to submit (that reflect the other 8 Principles as beautifully as your nursing pictures) we would be so grateful! Hope to see you next spring in
Ft. Collins-trying to plan a trip up there!
