Raising Butterflies, Second Installation
The photos of the (quickly) growing larvae are stacking up, so I thought I’d write a quick post.
With each of the days I got a photo of me holding the cup so that you could compare with the photo from the first day, and then some of one of the kids on each subsequent day.
First I’ll post the photo from Day 1, so that you don’t have to find it in the archives.
Day 2: A. was the first one up, so he got to be my “model”. The first is him holding it, the next is me.
Day 3: B. wasn’t the first up, but he was up before S.
Today was S.’s turn. She liked the one of B. looking through the cup, so I *had* to take one like that of her, too. But I preferred some others of her.
and me holding it for comparison
See how crowded (and messy!) it’s getting in there?
We found out that when we got them they were already about a week old, so we can expect them to start building their chrysalises soon.
I’m not sure exactly what that brown “food” is at the bottom of their jar, but Painted Ladie caterpillars like to eat mallow, rabbitbrush and thistle.
I’ll keep taking photos, though probably not to include the kids each time so that I can post the comparisons all in a column.
Tonight I get to go to CSU to have a session with L., so you’ll be seeing portraits here again before more of the buggies.
Use the form on the contact page to schedule your session or to get more information.
