A reflector could be helpful, Marchet. We were on campus with huge trees all around us, and still found open sky. How I'd love to be in a place where the trees grow like weeds, though!

Thanks Barb! You are always so helpful. I think I also might need to get a reflector to help with the catch lights since it's hard to find a spot with open sky behind me here in Georgia. Trees grow like weeds here! All my best. Glad you liked my autumn leaves pictures.

Thanks so much, Marchet!

I try to position my clients in a location where there is no direct or dappled light on them, but where there's open sky behind me. If you position yourself a little above them, they are looking up at you (therefore making their eyes wider, which looks nicer) and getting those wonderful catch lights! Unfortunately younger children don't want to sit still while you look for the best place/position, so it helps to find it on somebody who is more patient before getting your littlest clients into place. :)

I hope that helps!

btw, I took a quick look at your latest post and you've got some wonderful shots there! I love the third one down with the branch of red leaves and all the green tree bokeh behind it. :D

Barb,

I've been an admirer of your work for several months now. These last couple family sessions in the fall have been a real inspiration to me! I love the catch light in the eyes on these. How do you position your clients to get that? They're gorgeous!

Kim, I'm not sure Tara will see your question, so I'll let you know that she did make them. :D

STUNNING, to say the least. This is a family of lookers! Barb, your photographic expertise and artistry is so impressive. I can't wait until we have another need for pro photos :) And Tara, I love the girls' sweaters! Did you make them?
