About
My name is Barb Lattin. That’s me up there.
I’ve wanted to be a photographer since I was 9 years old, my parents surprised me with my first camera when I was 10, and have been dreaming about becoming a pro ever since.
A little photographic history
I got my first SLR when my oldest was born and a digital SLR after my youngest was born. I considered starting a photography business many times over the years, because all I really wanted to do career-wise was take pictures.
Thank goodness that what is meant to be keeps pushing through, or I’d still be dreaming about it.
Starting the business
I put it out there to a local group of mom friends to see if they were interested in getting the kinds of photos I had been wanting (particularly nursing photos from the mom’s point of view), and got a huge response!
My first session went great; I’ve continued to receive a ton of support and encouragement ever since!
A little about me
- I’m an Army brat
- I attended CSU, studying to become a Speech Therapist. A psychic told me then that I wouldn’t be a Speech Therapist and I thought she was crazy! She also told me that I’d be a “baby factory” and the way my kids have come to me has proven that I’m extremely fertile (TMI?
) - I met Dave late in 1992, we started dating early in 1993 and we’ve been married since 1997
- We’ve got three wonderful kids, a girl sandwiched by two boys
- Our kids are unschooled
- I started the first chapter of Attachment Parenting International in Colorado, and have been a leader for 7 years
- I started the Fort Collins Freecycle group; I gave up ownership of the group when my youngest was 6 months old
- I make jewelry, and used to have a business selling it
- I study the law of attraction and related spiritual material
- My favorite things to photograph are kids, and my kids especially!
Specializing in breastfeeding photos
I believe that the nursing relationship is very special and passes so quickly. These are moments that we want to remember forever. However, time passes and memories fade. We see our growing child’s face and it becomes difficult to remember what they looked like when they were smaller.
You realize this and want to capture these precious moments.
Of course, I don’t only take nursing photos
It is my intention that the photographs I take of you and your family bring back special memories of these early and short-term moments with your child. I feel blessed that you allow me to share such personal moments with you and your child!

Hi,
I have always loved art and more recently would like to learn more about photography and how to begin. I am thinking I would love to do family photos in their natural environment. Any suggestions? Congrats on pursuing your dream.
Grace
Barb,
Love your newsletter and your work! Keep ‘em coming!
Judy
Grace,
I began by reading - all that I could get my hands on - and taking lots of pictures to determine what I liked (my style, I guess). There are lots of email lists and forums and things online for support and learning, and I’m sure you’ll find something that feels good to you. There are great courses online if you can’t take courses at a local university or college, though I can’t recommend any as yet. Good luck!
Judy,
Thanks so much for the compliments!!
Hello Barbara,
It was great chattin with you… Oh my how much the kids have grown. Looks like your following a dream.. Congrats and keep it going sweety!
Natalie! I had so much fun catching up; there sure have been a ton of changes! I can’t believe it’s been 12 years since I’ve worked at Parking Services.
Thanks for the compliment! Be sure to keep in touch (and let me know if you need a good headshot for, you know, “networking”.
Hi Barb,
I just stumbled onto your blog. What a great happenstance. I was a Navy brat and then in one last act of teenage rebellion, joined the Marines. My folks gave me a poloroid for Christmas…but after I got out of boot camp, I got my first slr. I loved being able to take pictures all over the US and in Germany & Denmark. I finally got my first digital slr about three years ago and I am building my dream. Due to the economy, I’ve been out of work since January 09 but it has given me time to keep taking pictures and try to get my name out there. I just want to thank you for your inspiration & say I understand what you mean when you say you feel like you were made to do something. Me too. Best regards! I am going to bookmark your blog, so I can follow it.

Lisa,
I hope that you find what I post here interesting, if not inspiring.
I am glad that I could be of service to you! I’m also glad you had a camera handy while you were abroad; isn’t our world just beautiful?!
Warmly,
Barb
