A Little Election Excitement
I’m writing this on Saturday, but you’ll be reading it on Election Day. I have a couple of sessions coming up next week and know I won’t have the time to post this on the day I want it live, so I’m doing it ahead of time.
Blogging’s cool that way.
We voted a couple of days ago, and - as usual - took the kids.
This was the first time they came back with me to vote, though. Dave usually keeps the kids with him while I vote, and vice versa.
I was hoping to get pictures of them and my ballot together. That was not gonna happen!
We arrived at the early voting center and immediately had to split up; I had a card that let me skip a step (apparently updating my information online a couple of weeks earlier allowed this to happen), while Dave had to fill out some paperwork.
So I went ahead, thinking he’d catch up. And took the kids with me. By the time he was done, there were several people between us, and he didn’t want to cut ahead of them.
So they stayed with me through the process, and the volunteers pointed me to a location where I could sit with the kids instead of having to stand at a booth. There were little carrels that would keep my vote private, but they were further apart than the booths.
Finally done, I whipped out my camera to take a picture of the kids under the table… where they’d been while I voted (it kept them happy
). Not B., he sat next to me and read the privacy envelope, but I had him moving in closer to the others so I could get him, too.
Suddenly I hear somebody almost yelling, “No, No, NO! No cameras!!!!”.
I explained myself, but was told that I couldn’t take any pictures within the voting location. At first the woman who confronted me started telling me something about being 100 yards from the location, when she realized she was unsure of the rule. A woman who knew more told me I could take a picture just outside the place, by the sign.
So I did.
I was a little flustered, so hurried to take the picture and only took two.
I was really disappointed; I had wanted to get a picture of them putting the ballot in the box.
Look at the expression on my daughter’s face!
She was smiling in the first one, but was already done with it by the second (where they all had their eyes open).
They all have “I Voted” stickers on, but the younger two have them in white places of their shirts, so you can’t really see them. Actually, A.’s is in the monster’s mouth. LOL
As I was leaving, I told the woman, “Now I understand why I haven’t seen blogs with voting pictures. ”
And now you know why you haven’t seen blogs with voting pictures.

Oh, and here are some pictures of us at the Obama Rally. This is as close as we got to The Oval. We could have gotten closer, but we knew there was no way we’d get in, so we didn’t bother with walking over there and then back to the car (the kids were ready to go after an hour of walking).
A. didn’t want his picture taken, obviously. LOL
Sheesh, you’d think I was paparazzi and he was some kind of celebrity. I bet Obama would’ve smiled at me.
Use the form on the contact page to schedule your session or to get more information.

LOL at A. avoiding the camera!! Too cute!
Mayan totally wanted to take pictures of herself voting for the first time, but when we arrived we completely forgot about it. Get in…vote…get out.
Kelly,
Well, now you don’t have to feel bad about not getting pictures.
Though I think if you’d had a point and shoot, or even a cell phone, and been standing at a stall, you’d have been able to do it in secrecy. My three kids and honkin’ big camera just made me stand out too much. Next time I’ll bring in a tiny little spy camera. LOL
